
STANISLAS KIM
French-born cellist Stanislas Kim is a dynamic and versatile artist, acclaimed for his work as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral leader, and teacher.
A First Prize winner at the 2023 Klaipėda Cello Competition, Stanislas is also a laureate of several major international competitions, including the George Enescu International Competition (Bucharest), the Johannes Brahms Competition (Pörtschach), the Hindemith Competition (Berlin), and the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition.
He currently serves as Principal Cellist of the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM).
In addition to his orchestral role, he is committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians. He teaches at several leading Spanish institutions: as Deputy Professor (assisting Prof. Jens Peter Maintz) at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Professor at the Escuela Superior de Música de Extremadura, and at Forum Musikae Madrid.
Recent solo highlights include Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Geringas, and Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the ORCAM under Marzena Diakun.
Reflecting his commitment to a broad and exploratory repertoire, he has also championed Tristan Murail’s cello concerto De Pays et d’Hommes Étranges in performances with the Kammerorchester Hannover and the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg, bringing this complex, spectral work to audiences in Austria and Germany with nuance and conviction.
A passionate chamber musician, Stanislas is drawn to collaboration as a source of creative energy and artistic depth. He has performed with leading artists such as Midori, Sergey Dogadin, Tobias Feldmann, Benjamin Beck, and the Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet.
His chamber and solo appearances have taken him to prominent festivals across Europe, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Musiktage Hitzacker, Bachtage Würzburg, the Grieg Festival in Bergen, and the Cervo Festival in Italy, where he presents a repertoire that spans from classical masterworks to contemporary works.
He has received artistic guidance and mentorship from David Geringas, Ferenc Rados, Philippe Muller, Leonid Gorokhov, Andrew Manze, Frans Helmerson, and Jens Peter Maintz.
His studies were supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, the German Music Foundation, the Gundlach Foundation, and the Peter Fuld Foundation.
Stanislas performs on a fine 18th-century Italian cello, generously loaned by a private benefactor.
His debut album, Postscriptum, released in April 2024 on Genuin Classics with pianist Marie Rosa Günter, features works by Shostakovich and other St. Petersburg composers. The recording was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
